Bass Rock supported the rapid development, testing and deployment of specialist military equipment for the Ministry of Defence (MOD). By using a combination of requirements engineering support and project management methods, we were able to directly support the delivery of a world-leading technical solution.
The Situation
New requirements for specialist military equipment can emerge from the battlefield very quickly. This new equipment requires rapid development, testing and deployment to the Front-Line Command (FLC). In this instance, the MOD had encountered an urgent and complex requirement on a sub-surface maritime project, which had challenging performance expectations as well as strict budget and time constraints.
The Brief
Bass Rock was asked to provide requirements engineering support to a branch of the UK military which urgently required new capability to respond to an emerging threat on the battlefield.
Our Approach
We provided a consultant with deep domain knowledge and requirements engineering expertise who immediately assisted the client in capturing both the Concept of Employment and the User Requirements Document, in accordance with a system-of-systems approach and underpinned by the MOD’s Architecture Framework principles.
We then developed a Systems Requirement Document (SRD) and a Statement Of Technical Requirement (SOTR) to support the procurement and in-service support of a technical solution.
The Outcome
Our requirements engineering support enabled the client to launch a competitive tender to produce the specialist military equipment. As a direct result of our work, a world-leading technical solution is currently being delivered, which fully meets the requirement and provides a step-change in capability for its users.
The client was very satisfied with the work delivered and requested further support from us in managing all aspects of Acceptance as the capability formally transitions from Manufacture to In-Service.
